Announces Members of
the Sheep & Goat Fund Committee

Colorado Springs, CO (Dec. 14, 1999) -- On Nov. 18 an agreement was signed between the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (Sheep Center) and the National Livestock Producers Association that will enable the Sheep Center funds to be utilized in the sheep and goat industries. 

That agreement allows the NLPA to establish a Sheep and Goat Fund which is a revolving fund in NLPA that will be used exculsively for loans to the sheep and goat industries. According to the terms of the agreement, The Sheep and Goat Fund Committee is responsible for the oversight of the intermediary Sheep and Goat Fund. 

NLPA was required to submit nominations to the Sheep Center Board of Directors for their approval.  NLPA made those nominations to the Sheep Center Board of Directors on Dec. 1, 1999.  The Sheep Center Board of Directors met by conference call on Dec. 9 and approved the following nominees to the Committee.

  • Greg Beck of Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Assn., Baraboo, WI
  • Dennis Bolling of United Producers, Inc., Columbus, OH
  • Jack Caubin of Tri-State Livestock Credit Corp.,Sacramento, CA
  • Richard Drake, Lamb feeder, Windsor, CO
  • Pierce Miller, Sheep and Goat Producer, San Angelo, TX
  • John Peavey, Sheep Producer, Carey, ID
  • Robert York, National Livestock Credit Corp., Oklahoma City, OK

The Committee will hold its first meeting in conjunction with the NLPA Annual Meeting in New Orleans on January 13, 2000.  The first meeting will focus on organizational needs and the application criteria and process that will be used. 

It is expected that applications will be available to the sheep and goat industries sometime in the weeks following that meeting.  Those who have contacted the Sheep Center in the past regarding an application will automatically be sent an application when they become available.
