NLPA Sheep & Goat Fund Committee
Finalizes Policies and Application

Colorado Springs, CO (Jan. 21, 2000)-- Members of the National Livestock Producers Association Sheep and Goat Fund Committee held their first meeting in conjunction with the NLPA Annual Meeting in New Orleans on January 13, 2000.

The Committee met with members of the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (Sheep Center) and NLPA to finalize policies concerning the use and administration of the Sheep and Goat Fund. The Committee also put the finishing touches on the application, which will be ready for distribution by Feb. 15th, 2000.

Last year an agreement was signed between the Sheep Center and the NLPA that enables the Sheep Center funds to be utilized in the sheep and goat industries. The agreement allows NLPA to establish a revolving fund with NLPA that will be used exclusively for loans to the sheep and goat industries. According to the terms of the agreement, The Sheep and Goat Fund Committee is responsible for the oversight of this process.

The NLPA Sheep and Goat Fund was created to accomplish the following goals:

  • Make capital available for increasing production or improving production efficiency.
  • mprove marketing efficiency or product quality.
  • Promote coordination and cooperation within the industry.

Those who have contacted the Sheep Center in the past regarding an application will automatically be sent an application when they become available. For further information please feel free to contact the National Livestock Producers Association at (800) 237-7193.
